Twenty Seven Years of Dieting

For as long as I can remember I have been dieting. My first recollection was when I was about ten years old. I remember the room being very starch and grey. As I sat and waited for my childhood friend to meet me, the room started to fill I looked around and realized I was surrounded by people much older then me and I couldn’t figure out why I was really there. Once my friend arrived our moms starting chatting and I remembered why we were here. This is the place we go once a week to help us loose weight, it was like the buddy system.

I guess it wasn’t so bad in theory: some kids go to the park and some kids go to Weight Watchers. The whole thing wasn’t so bad we would sit and talk about what we ate all week and how we can make better choices about what to eat. The one part that I didn’t look forward to was the weigh in. Back then you wouldn’t weight in at the front when you first come in, you would go in this little black booth area with a WW representative also known as the “Evil Bitch” that told you to stop eating all the things you love. Then not only would you have to face her but you would have to bring home your WW report card reminding you what a great big failure you were that week.

Let’s Face it I can’t blame my weight on my childhood, my parents, my friends or even the Evil Bitch at Weight Watchers, but I can recognize that if I don’t stop reliving the past I will never be able to live the present.

So that’s why I am writing this blog, to create accountability for my actions, to help break old habits, to help not only myself make a conscious decision about what I put in my body, but to help open the eyes of others that may be in similar situations. Contact The Healthy Bitch
